The Chicago Bears are allowing a defensive end who has made 10 sacks over the past two seasons to seek trade opportunities.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Trevis Gipson has been permitted to fashion a move out of Chicago as the player is keen on playing in a defensive system that is more in line with his strengths.
Given that he’s been as good as he’s been over the past two seasons, it’s perhaps scary to imagine how much better Gipson could be. The DE made seven sacks in 2021, adding another three in 2022. He’s put together some mean stats since 2021, including 18 quarterback hits, 11 tackles for loss, and five forced fumbles.
The 26-year-old is thought to be looking to rejoin a 3-4 defensive scheme as he thrived in such a setup during the 2021 season.
Gipson was drafted in the fifth round in 2020 and excelled as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme under former Bears defensive coordinator Sean Desai.
With Alan Williams coming in as the DC for 2022 and changing things around, the former Tulsa star struggled and has requested a trade ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Another team is now likely to benefit from his effectiveness in a 3-4.
