An interesting statistic for the San Francisco 49ers has emerged, and it suggests that good fortunes await them in Super Bowl 58 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The 49ers outlasted the Detroit Lions in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game to set up a Super Bowl 54 rematch with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. The two teams met in the big game four years ago, with the Chiefs emerging victorious 31-20.
Jay Cuda pointed out an interesting trend regarding the 49ers’ Super Bowl history. In each of their five Super Bowl championship-winning seasons, the 49ers won the NFC Championship Game over a team that had blue in their logo.
The two years the 49ers lost in the Super Bowl? The team they beat in the NFC title game (Atlanta Falcons in 2012 and Green Bay Packers in 2019) had no blue colors whatsoever:
And blue, of course, is the main color of the Lions’ logo. So if history repeats itself, the 49ers will have emerged victorious in Super Bowl 58 against the defending champions.
San Fran has opened as a -2.5 favorite over Mahomes and Kansas City.
