An offensive offside infraction left Kansas City seeing red on Sunday.
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce’s lateral for a touchdown against the Buffalo Bills was negated by a receiver’s offsides penalty. The Chiefs trailed by three points when Kelce hauled in a pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes and as he weaved past a couple of Buffalo defenders and got to the 20-yard line, he spotted Kadarius Toney behind him.
Kelce fired a strike to Toney, who ran untouched for the touchdown, but the celebration was short-lived as he was lined up in the neutral zone.
While Patrick Mahomes was fuming about it after the game, Kelce did just like a Taylor Swift song and shook it off. Hot microphones caught him having a nice moment with Bills QB Josh Allen moments after the final whistle, with the Chiefs‘ star tight end calling Allen a “warrior” and telling him, “Stay healthy, baby. Keep doing your thing. Way to fight.”
Kelce finished Sunday’s loss with six catches for 83 yards, but many will leave this game with the potential of how things would be if his lateral did indeed count for the Chiefs to win.
The Chiefs’ loss hurt their chances at the top overall seed in the AFC with four games remaining, as they are now forced to focus on their dwindling lead in the AFC West.
