Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce has offered a reaction to the mass shooting that took place after Wednesday’s Super Bowl victory parade.
The Chiefs took to the streets to celebrate Sunday’s win over the San Francisco 49ers, however, the event was marred by gunmen opening fire into the crowd, killing a mother of two and leaving 22 others wounded.
Police have confirmed that three people have been arrested so far.
Kelce and the rest of the Chiefs players had already left when the gunfire ensued, with the team letting the mayor know that all players, coaches, and staff were accounted for.
“I am heartbroken over the tragedy that took place today,” the tight end wrote on X hours after the shooting. “My heart is with all who came out to celebrate with us and have been affected. KC, you mean the world to me.”
The incident has rocked the entire city, turning the festive atmosphere prompted by a second successive Super Bowl win into one of sadness, shock, and mourning.

“I’m heartbroken. I was there with my wife, I was there with my mother, we never would have thought that we, along with Chiefs players, along with fans, hundreds of thousands of people, would be forced to run for our safety.”
“We are deeply saddened by the senseless shooting that occurred today near the end of the rally in Kansas City for the Chiefs,” the NFL said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the victims and everyone affected.
