Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce had to provide some tough love to one of his teammates during the AFC Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills, but the message was received loud and clear.
The Chiefs defeated the Bills 32-29 at Arrowhead Stadium to win their third straight conference championship, as well as their fifth in six years. Kansas City will face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59, looking to complete the historic three-peat.
One of the unsung heroes of the AFC Championship Game for Kansas City was wide receiver and special teams weapon Nikko Remigio, who had 107 kick return yards (four kickoffs) and a 41-yard punt return.
According to Remigio, Travis Kelce was furious when he decided to call for a fair catch on the Bills’ first punt in the first quarter. Kelce delivered a stern message to Remigio, who took the next punt return for 41 yards to set up Patrick Mahomes’ rushing touchdown before halftime.
Here’s what Remigio said on Kay Adams’ “Up & Adams” show:
“Trav came up to me earlier in the game and, you know, I had fair caught that first punt coming out of the gates. And he was like, ‘That’s not being great, bro.’ And so I knew going into this next opportunity that I had, I’m like, ‘I gotta make something happen.”
The tough love from Travis Kelce motivated Remigio to avoid the fair catch signal on his next return. After he provided the 41-yard return, Remigio said Kelce was the first one to greet him.

When in doubt, just ask Kelce what to do. This man knows what to do in pivotal situations better than just about anyone else, being a three-time Super Bowl champion and all.
It was a surprisingly quiet day for Kelce, who caught just two passes for 19 yards. But Patrick Mahomes, the ground game (135 rushing yards and three touchdowns) and opportunistic defense did the bulk of the heavy lifting in Kansas City’s thrilling victory.
Travis Kelce & Chiefs Are One Win Away From History
If the Chiefs defeat Philadelphia to complete the three-peat dream, it’ll be time to consider them as the greatest dynasty in the history of American sports. A victory would give them the first Super Bowl three-peat, as well as four championships in just six short seasons.
Kelce and the Chiefs have nothing more to prove, but a win on Feb. 9 puts them in another tier of NFL greatness.
