Travis Kelce could miss the Kansas City Chiefs’ season-opening fixture against the Detroit Lions on Monday, having sustained a knee injury in practice on Tuesday.
His brother, Jason Kelce, has offered some insight this Wednesday morning, sharing additional details on the tight end’s situation heading into Thursday’s game.
Jason, a center for the Philadelphia Eagles, revealed Travis has some swelling in his knee following a hyperextension but scans did not show any structural damage, meaning he’s very likely to suit up against the Lions in what will be the first game of Kansas City’s title defense.
“I know he’s got some swelling going on. It sounds like as long as they can get that down, he’s gonna have a chance to go,” he said on SportsRadio 94WIP. “The ligaments and everything are intact structurally, from what we know right now. His knee is fine, so really it’s about getting that swelling down and then seeing how bruised that bone is. … I think he’s gonna be good to go. I really do.”
Jason also revealed having suffered the same injury while trying to kick a piece of wood during preparations for a bonfire. He confirmed that he did not miss any time because of it.
This comes across as great news for Chiefs fans given that Kelce is Patrick Mahomes’ favorite target and one of the most important players for the team.
