The entire NFL world was sent to the edge of their seats on Tuesday, as they awaited word on the severity of the knee injury suffered by Kansas City Chiefs superstar tight end Travis Kelce.
The updates continued to trickle in, but it appears as though we have our most specific update yet, via the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
According to the highly-respected NFL insider, Kelce “specifically” suffered a bone bruise during practice. At the moment, he’s dealing with swelling in the area, but the good news is that all of his ligaments appear to be intact.
With no structural damage, the Chiefs don’t expect this to be a long-term injury. He’s expected to be reevaluated today to see how the knee feels, and while his status is doubtful for Thursday night’s season opener against the Detroit Lions, he has not yet been ruled out.
The fact that the Chiefs have not yet ruled Kelce out has to be good news for Chiefs fans and fantasy owners alike. Kelce has been a beast over the course of his career, so you know that if it is a matter of pain tolerance, there’s a good chance you’ll see the tight end out there.
Of course, it’s never ideal to suffer something like a hyperextended knee just two days before a game, so it is also very likely that the Chiefs sit Kelce on Thursday no matter what — especially given the fact that he’ll have an extra few days to recover and get himself ready for a week 2 battle against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
