The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly putting Travis Kelce through a workout this morning to determine his status ahead of their season opener vs. the Detroit Lions this Thursday night.
The tight end remains an unknown after suffering a knee injury in practice this week. While he avoided serious damage, the Chiefs are unsure he could play against Detroit tonight, though his brother has said he should be fine for the first game of the season.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the team will put the player through a workout that should help them decide whether he will play or whether they should put his 2023 debut on hold.
Kelce is one of the most important players on the Chiefs roster and is quarterback Patrick Mahomes’s favorite target.
The 33-year-old made 110 catches for 1338 yards and 12 touchdowns last season and was instrumental as the Chiefs went on to win the Super Bowl. It would come as a huge blow to them if he’s unable to suit up for their Week 1 fixture.
