Travis Kelce has been made to explain why he was wiping spit on the jersey of teammate Patrick Mahomes.
The star tight end was shown intentionally getting his spittle on the back of Mahomes jersey during the Kansas City Chiefs’ divisional-round win over the Jacksonville Jaguars last weekend and couldn’t believe he got caught.
Kelce, who made 14 receptions for 98 yards and two touchdowns in the important playoff game, was speaking to his brother, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, on the New Heights podcast this Wednesday when he explained his actions.
“That’s crazy that they caught me. I didn’t even realize I did it,” he said laughing. “I’ll find anybody’s dry jersey or towel and just make sure my gloves are clean.”
The TE recalled getting paint from the end zone on his gloves and needed to make sure that didn’t affect his catching.
“I was like spitting on my hands and licking my hands, trying to get that thing back real grippy,” he offered. “We were in the red zone, so I couldn’t risk dropping a ball, and so I had to just …,” he added as he mimed licking his glove again.

“Alright Pat, I’m ready.”
Mahomes will not mind too much as Kelce scored a TD on the next play. But he will probably be extra careful when they face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
