Travis Kelce has explained his absurd decision to slam the Lombardi Trophy during the NFL Draft.
Kansas City hosted last week’s event, with the Chiefs having won the Super Bowl back in February. So, of course, the team’s most entertaining personality took center stage at some point.
Kelce was shown drinking off the Lombardi before spiking his can of tequila seltzer, as well as the trophy itself. Fans couldn’t believe the tight end would treat the legendary piece of silverware that way, with some of them fearing the worse for the Chiefs, as something like that would surely leave them cursed.
But he was never going to do that to the real thing, right?
Speaking to his brother Jason Kelce on their New Heights podcast, Travis insisted the trophy was a replica, though he did have the real trophy on stage during the draft.
His brother had a hard time believing him, but that was likely feigned too.

“Honestly, if you got a problem with somebody doing that to Lombardi, go win it, and don’t do it to the Lombardi,” the Chiefs star said to his detractors.
As it turned out, Travis had to beat his brother to get to his second Super Bowl. The brothers had a championship win each to their names prior to February’s curtain closer but the Chiefs TE has moved ahead 2-1 after what was an entertaining affair against Jason’s Philadelphia Eagles.
