The Cincinnati Bengals are one of the top teams in the NFL right now, but they need to win a Super Bowl in order to establish themselves as a true powerhouse in the league.
Only two teams have been more successful than the Bengals over the past two campaigns but it won’t count for much if they don’t actually win a championship.
A trade has been floated which could see them do just that.
Cincinnati could use a formidable pass rusher in their defense. Should they land a player who could play opposite defensive end Trey Hendrickson, they would be quite a handful.
Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay has suggested a move for Los Angeles Chargers outside linebacker Khalil Mack. The Chargers are having a hard time navigating the salary cap, having restructured some player contracts. And, if they can’t sort their problems out by 2024, they will be in a real bind as there’s the matter of Justin Herbert’s money to take care of.
Mack has a $38.6 million cap hit for next season so the Chargers could end up trading him after just one season. Kay reckons the Bengals should consider him as he just might be the force that drives them past the line, so a short-term deal could be worth it.

He also notes 2023 picks in the second and seventh rounds might be enough to tempt the Chargers.
“Cincinnati should capitalize if Mack becomes available, even if it’s just a one-season rental,” he writes. “He was traded by the Chicago Bears for second- and sixth-round selections and could get dealt for even less this offseason considering the future financial issues that are now hanging over the Chargers in wake of the restructure.”
The Bengals will also have a top quarterback to pay soon enough, with Joe Burrow guaranteed to make some major bank given his impact on the team’s fortunes. They would do well to make key additions before they have Burrow’s contract to consider.
