An enticing trade proposal would see the Green Bay Packers send four-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers out east to a QB-needy club.
Rodgers has yet to announce if he’ll play football next season, and if he would go back to the Packers or seek a trade. The 39-year-old sought a trade two years ago despite leading the Packers to the 2020 NFC Championship Game, but he wound up walking back on that request and decided to remain in Titletown.
If Rodgers opts to play football but seeks a trade, there will be no shortage of interested suitors for the future Hall of Famer. At Pro Football Focus, Brad Spielberger offered an enticing trade idea that would see the Packers deal A-Rod to the New York Jets in exchange for 2023 and 2024 first-rounders plus 2023 and 2024 second-round picks:
“Over the past three seasons, Rodgers’ 92.5 passing grade leads the NFL, with Tom Brady’s 92.1 mark — in seasons all played well over 40 years old — right behind. Rodgers’ 97.2 mark on throws 20-plus yards downfield since 2020 ranks fourth, and his 6.8% big-time throw rate leads the league over the span. A healthy Rodgers has shown no signs of slowing down and could make the Jets an immediate contender.
The Jets have a very good roster at almost every position besides quarterback, as they’ve utilized extra draft capital over the past two years to the tune of seven top-50 draft picks. First-round guard Alijah Vera-Tucker and first-round tackle Mekhi Becton will return in 2023, and Rodgers would have Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore and Corey Davis to throw to at wide receiver.”
The Jets missed out on the postseason in 2022 largely because of lackluster quarterback play from Mike White, Joe Flacco and Zach Wilson. Trading for an all-time great like Rodgers would all but conclude their seemingly never-ending search for a franchise quarterback.
