A massive trade proposal has the New England Patriots sending Pro Bowl pass rusher Matthew Judon to an NFC contender in a move that would shake up the race for Super Bowl 59.
Matthew Judon is entering the final year of his contract and has voiced his desire for a new deal. But with the AFC East club in rebuilding mode, and with Judon offering plenty of value on the trade market, one can argue that the best move would be to deal him before the regular season commences.
Judon has outperformed the four-year, $54.5 million deal he signed with New England in 2021 free agency, with 32 sacks in 38 total games. The Pats could look at extending the soon-to-be 32-year-old, but there’s a good chance the Eliot Wolf-led front office will get an offer they can’t refuse.
Mike Payton of A to Z Sports proposed a blockbuster trade idea that would see the Detroit Lions acquire Matthew Judon from the Patriots in exchange for 2025 fourth and sixth-round draft picks:
“The Patriots get some future assets and the ability to save even more money for the future. The Lions would have to sign Judon to an extension, but don’t look for that to be a massive deal like some of the guys in free agency just got this past March…
If the Patriots do wind up moving him, his accolades are going to bring a lot of suitors. The Lions should be one of them. This is a Super Bowl winning type acquisition that helps the Lions defense tremendously.”

Aidan Hutchinson has emerged as one of the best pass rushers in football, but he was the only Lion to exceed five sacks last year (Alim McNeill was second with five). The lack of game-changing pass rushers after Hutchinson was exposed in Detroit’s heartbreaking NFC Championship Game loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Detroit Lions Should Be Going All-In For Matthew Judon
The Lions brought in veterans DJ Reader and Marcus Davenport to bolster the depth on the defensive line. But neither of them are game-wreckers like Judon, who could make Detroit the team to beat in the NFC.
Detroit got to the NFC title game with a mediocre defense last year. The secondary will improve with the additions of corners Carlton Davis III and Terrion Arnold, but having Judon complement Hutchinson off the edge would take this Detroit defense to a whole new level.
