Dallas Cowboys fans will likely think they were screwed out of a playoff win for the next several months, but Tony Dungy is here to set them straight.
Most of the fan base continue to focus on the final 14 seconds where QB Dak Presoctt took off for a 17-yard gain and being collided with by a trailing ref who rushed in to spot the ball so they could clock it. Unfortunately, time ran out in the game and on their season.
Dungy took to Twitter to set Cowboys fans straight that the playoff game was lost well before that even took place and that they are focusing on the wrong thing.
“Concerning the Dallas Cowboys—let’s forget the last play and the clock. How about giving up 169 yds rushing, giving up 5 sacks, completing less than 60% of their passes, running for only 77 yds, and committing 14 penalties?? That’s more concerning than the last 14 seconds,” Dungy tweeted.
The 14 penalties tied a record for the most penalties committed in a playoff game.
Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Neville Gallimore took blame for Sunday’s wild-card loss to the San Francisco 49ers after he was called for a critical hands-to-the-face penalty in the fourth quarter.

The Cowboys stopped the 49ers on a 3rd-and-12 with four minutes and 31 seconds left in the game. That would have given Dallas plenty of time to drive and potentially win the game. The 49ers may not have scored, but they got a new set of downs and wasted more time off the clock.
The offensive line also failed to show up, allowing Prescott to be sacked five times. This game was lost everywhere and in every possible.
