TB12 was almost TB7 in Tampa Bay.
When the future hall of fame QB left the New England Patriots to sign with the Tampa Bay Bucs last offseason, he was already going to a squad that featured top wide receivers in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. From there, he convinced his good friend Rob Gronkowski to come out of retirement and join him.
The only issue that remained is the fact that Godwin wore No. 12.
Buccaneers’ general manager Jason Licht did an interview on the “Peter King Podcast,” where he stated he informed Brady that he might have to change numbers.
“I said, ‘Hey, there’s one other thing. It’s a small thing, but maybe a big thing. We have a number 12 on our team and he’s pretty good, Chris Godwin. What are you thinking about that?’” Licht recapped. “Tom said, ‘Oh, he’s a great player. I’m not going to take his number.’”
Brady came up with a clever idea for his possible new number:
“You know what number I’m thinking of? I’m thinking of taking maybe No. 7,” Licht recalled Brady saying. “‘Is that available?’ he goes. I said, ‘Yeah, I think it is. Why seven?’ He goes, ‘Go after that seventh Super Bowl. That’s pretty cool.’”

When it was all said and done, Godwin switched from 12 to 14 and Brady got to have his No. 12 anyway.
He will now get his chance to obtain his seventh Super Bowl ring on February 7th.
