Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady was handed one of the worst losses of his NFL career against his childhood team, the San Francisco 49ers, at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday.
Brady and the out-of-sync Bucs’ offense was no answer for the league’s best defense. He threw two interceptions, miraculously avoided several sacks and led his team to just seven points in a 35-7 blowout.
According to Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle, a frustrated Brady didn’t even bother to take a shower after the Bucs’ humiliating defeat:
“Let the record show that Tom Brady, the most accomplished man ever to fill a football uniform with sweat and grime, dipped out of Santa Clara Sunday evening in preparation for a cross-country flight back to Tampa without having bothered to shower.”
“Some things I don’t give a f— about, at this point,” an angry Brady said, according to Silver. “F— that. I’m going home.”
Though the 49ers were favored entering this game, it felt like a perfect opportunity for the Buccaneers to escape with a win. The 49ers were down to third-stringer and 2022 “Mr. Irrelevant” in Brock Purdy, who was making his first career NFL start. Instead, Purdy looked like a seasoned veteran for San Fran, completing 16 of 21 pass attempts for 185 yards and two touchdowns to go along with a rushing touchdown.
The 49ers lost Jimmy Garoppolo with a foot injury in the 49ers’ Week 13 home game against the Miami Dolphins, and he’s expected to miss the rest of the season. This came 11 weeks after San Francisco lost starting QB Trey Lance for the season with an ankle fracture.

Brady completed 34 of 55 pass attempts for 253 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in the Bucs’ 35-7 loss. The defeat dropped Tampa Bay to 6-7 on the year, and it also guarantees Brady’s first season of seven-plus losses since 2002.
Despite the losing record, the Buccaneers sit first in the NFC South, one game ahead of the 5-8 Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers. Tampa will try to get some momentum back when they host the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday.
