Bill Belichick reportedly wouldn’t meet face-to-face with Tom Brady for a proper goodbye when the quarterback departed New England for Tampa Bay.
That was the claim in ESPN’s Seth Wickersham’s upcoming book, “It’s Better to be Feared”, where he claimed that Belichick told Brady he wasn’t available for an in-person meeting, and instead suggested a phone call. Belichick reportedly told his longtime quarterback that he was the “best player the league had ever seen.”
On Wednesday, Belichick addressed the reported phone call in a press conference ahead of the Patriots-Buccaneers Week 4 matchup and said, “That’s not true.”
“No, that’s not true,” “I heard a few things about you know this book and it sounds like it’s a lot of second, third, fourth hand comments so. But I’m not gonna get into that. I’m going to focus on this game.”
On Thursday, Brady was asked about those claims and he stated the entire ordeal was handled well by the Patriots.
“All those things are super personal, we had a great relationship, everything was handled the right way.we handled as gracefully as we could… It was handled perfectly I think everyone understood where we were at…Things worked out for the best for all of us.”
