Tom Brady has discussed the ongoing MVP race and has chosen a personal favorite who isn’t a quarterback.
Brock Purdy is the outright favorite with three weeks left in the regular season and just might go on to make history as he would have gone from being the final pick in last year’s draft to the player who takes home the most prestigious individual award.
Brady, though, reckons Purdy’s 49ers teammate Christian McCaffrey has made a great case himself. Purdy would agree with him, at least publicly.
The versatile running back is well on track to finish the season with 2,000 total yards, which would be an incredible feat.
“I remember the first time I actually got a glimpse of Christian was in the Rose Bowl,” the seven-time Super Bowl winner said on his ‘Let’s Go’ podcast (H/T NBC Sports Bay Area).
“He caught an angle pass against Iowa and ran for about a 75-yard touchdown. I was like, ‘Well, they’re not gonna catch him!’… He was a dynamic player then. He is a dynamic player now, and I think all of what he’s done this year is a lot what he’s done in the past…
“So he is definitely, in my mind, the MVP favorite and according to his quarterback too, Brock Purdy, who says some amazing things about him.”
While McCaffrey has had an incredible season, it might take some effort to get past Purdy in the MVP race. The quarterback is -225 at the moment, while he’s got much wider odds at +700.
