Raiders owner Mark Davis has again handed himself the task of hiring a new head coach after firing Josh McDaniels last week.
While Antonio Pierce has been handed the reins until the end of the season, the franchise will have a coaching vacancy when it’s over. Of course, there’s always the chance of Pierce making a case for himself.
According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, Davis will consult Tom Brady for advice when the time comes.
“What’s next in Vegas? Sources tell me Mark Davis is expected to rely on team executives and would-be partial owner Tom Brady for advice on who to lead the team,” Jones said on NFL Today. “After a package deal last time, Davis will likely hire a GM first, and then a player-centric head coach after the season.”
Brady was expected to become a minority owner in Vegas but things have stagnated on that front due to other owners asserting that Davis is giving the former quarterback too great of a discount. Still, that won’t stop the seven-time Super Bowl winner from making a meaningful contribution to the coaching search if he’s called upon.
Brady and Davis have enjoyed a long friendship, with the former having already bought into the WNBA’s Vegas Aces, which is also owned by Davis. One has to wonder whether he advised the Raiders owner to fire McDaniels, whom he also had a great relationship with following their time together with the Patriots.
