Derrick Henry would have reportedly been a Baltimore Raven if not for owner Amy Adams Strunk’s decision to get involved.
According to Ravens freelance writer Cole Jackson, the Ravens had an agreement “in place” with the Tennessee Titans to land the two-time rushing champion. However, Jackson reports that Strunk “vetoed” the trade.
Jackson’s report came after ESPN’s Adam Schefter stated that a Henry trade was highly unlikely since the deadline for him to restructure the last year of his contract had expired.
Henry turns 30 years of age in January, and he’s in the final season of a four-year extension he signed in 2020. Those two factors made Henry a strong trade deadline candidate, but the Titans are seemingly willing to risk losing him for nothing in 2024 free agency as opposed to getting some compensation ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.
Of course, the Titans might end up trying to make a run at the postseason following Sunday’s thrilling week 8 home win over the Atlanta Falcons. Rookie quarterback Will Levis threw four touchdowns in Tennessee’s 28-23 win, moving them to 3-4 and just a game out of a wild card spot.
The 2020 Offensive Player of the Year has once again been Tennessee’s MVP on offense, racking up 526 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Henry is on pace to record his fifth 1,000-yard season in six years.
