Tim Tebow has as close a relationship with Urban Meyer as we saw when he received an opportunity to try his hand at tight end with the Jaguars this summer. As expected, he was shocked when he saw the bar video of Meyer having a lady dance on him that wasn’t his wife, who Tebow is also close with.
Tebow addressed the situation on ESPN’s “First Take” on Friday morning about his former coach at Florida.
“This is a very disappointing, frustrating and honestly heartbreaking situation,” Tebow said.
“When I first saw and heard what was happening, my heart was hurting for Miss Shelley, Coach’s wife, someone that I love very much, and his daughters, who I’m very close with, who I’ve talked with both of them this week, and also had the chance of talking with coach. It’s a very difficult week, and my advice to him was to apologize to admit it, to learn from it, to never, never repeat it.”
Tebow also shared what Meyer told him as it appeared he was fighting back tears.
“Coach shared with me that it was one of the hardest times of his life,” Tebow said. “And he apologized, but he didn’t need to apologize to me. I know this weighs so heavy on his heart and he is hurting. I do think for some of the guys he will have to earn back their trust and respect. I think he really wants to do that.

This is not something that I think anyone in his family takes lightly. This is a very serious situation, a very disappointing situation, but I also know that Coach isn’t taking it lightly and he knows what a big deal this is, how disappointing it is to so many people, and I believe that he wants to make amends, which is very hard and it takes a while. That’s the thing about a reputation, it takes a lifetime to build and a moment to lose.”
The 34-year-old was the quarterback at Florida when the Gators won two national titles under Meyer more than a decade ago. Meyer then retured that favor by giving him another shot in the National Football League, even though it did not work out in his favor.
You have to believe that Meyer doesn’t have too many more chances to screw up before the franchise parts ways with him. Not really missing much with a team that has lost 19 games in a row.
