The Washington Commanders released Carson Wentz this week. The move reportedly saved the Commanders $26.2 million in salary-cap space this upcoming season, an easy choice to make after Wentz failed to show that he could still be a starter this season.
He finished the year with 1,755 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions in eight games, completing 62.3 percent of his passes.
He’s now free to sign with any team when free agency opens, but one former NFL QB thinks he’ll be signing up to be a backup only.
Tim Hasselbeck went on Tuesday morning’s edition of Get Up to discuss why Wentz is done as a starter in this league.
“I think he’s done as a starter,” Hasselbeck said. “You have to consider it this way: He made $130 million playing football so far. Is he going to go take a deal to be a backup with little to no guarantees? Not everyone has the stomach for that. I think not only is he done as a starter, I think there’s gonna be legitimate soul-searching for Carson Wentz on whether or not he wants to continue playing football.”
The Commanders were a lowly 2-5 in his seven starts this past season.

His play has dropped consistently since he appeared to be one of the bright young stars at the position early in his career. However, an early injury stopped everything for him in his progress.
Now it remains to be seen which team signs up for the full Carson Wentz Experience.
