The New York Jets may be in for a surprise if another team could enter trade talks for Aaron Rodgers.
According to WFAN’s Tiki Barber, the San Francisco 49ers could go after Rodgers if they decide to move on from former No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance.
“All of this little simmering coming out of this thing about Aaron Rodgers actually going to the 49ers instead of the Jets actually has some validity,” Barber said, via Audacy. “If the 49ers trade Trey Lance, and Brock Purdy isn’t available to play this year because of UCL surgery…they will go get – and they’re OK with mortgaging their future – this team will go get Aaron Rodgers if he’s available, and the Jets will be stuck sitting out in the cold with their underwear on, and that’s it.”
WFAN member Craig Carton said a few weeks ago the 49ers are “ready to pursue” Rodgers if a deal between the Jets and Packers falls through.
The Jets have been rumored to have interest in the four-time NFL MVP all offseason with no other team really entering the conversation, especially after Rodgers stated himself he wanted to play for the Jets.
Earlier this offseason, former Giants running back Tiki Barber didn’t hold back when stating he doesn’t think Rodgers would be able to handle the scrutiny he’d receive from the media in New York.

“If he is that sensitive that he gets upset that people, reporters, opinion-makers, influencers, whoever, want to talk about him, he is going to struggle in New York. And I don’t know if it’s the right fit for him,” Barber said. “I don’t know if I want him in New York if this is going to be his reaction to things that don’t matter.”
“If Aaron Rodgers doesn’t want people talking about him, talking about his offseason, talking about his personal life, talking about all these things that are going on with Aaron Rodgers, he needs to stop talking.”
The former NFL running back spent his entire 10-year playing career with the Giants from 1997-2006 so he knows how tough the media can be.
The 2022 season ended in disappointment for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers as the team could not take down the Lions in the final week of the season to qualify for the postseason. No one knew at the time that the game would be his final one as a member of the Packers.
For now, it’s looking like he might be on the roster well past the NFL Draft since both sides have seemingly dug in on their stance and little to no communication has happened between them.
