A surprising name has flown up the betting odds ladder ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Jayden Daniels, last season’s Heisman Trophy winner, has long been considered the favorite to go to Washington at No. 2, with the Commanders picking second in next week’s event. Even his college coach has hinted that his former QB will end up with the NFC team.
However, if the latest betting odds are anything to go on, Drake Maye will be the one picked at second.
The odds have changed a week ahead of the draft following Daniels’ agent taking to social media to imply that he was not happy about the Commanders hosting the ex-LSU star on the same day as Maye, as well as two other top prospects in JJ McCarthy and Michael Penix Jr., in the buildup to the NFL Draft.
Said social media activity has prompted a change at the sportsbooks. Daniels is still favored to come off the board at No. 2, but the bookies clearly think otherwise, with Maye moving into second where their favorites are concerned.

“Peak was Jayden Daniels -350 to be drafted before Maye at @CircaSports,” VSin’s Tim Murray said.
He’s also noted that Daniels is -130 to go to Washington, which is the same case for Maye.
Such Movement Is Not Unusual Ahead Of The NFL Draft
As to whether or not there’s a real basis for the change in odds is unknown. Such movement occurs ahead of the NFL Draft every year, but there could be something to it this time, given said agent’s actions.
One thing is for sure: the Commanders aren’t trading their No. 2 pick. GM Adam Peters told reporters this week that the team has no plans to entertain trade talk over the selection and will finalize their decision on who they’ll draft by early next week.
The NFL Draft will take place from April 25-27.
