The 2020 NFL season has not been a normal one as the global pandemic had a team playing a game without an actual QB.
On Saturday, the NFL made sure what happened to the Denver Broncos won’t happen again as they instituted the “Kendall Hinton Rule.”
The rule allows teams that are without a quarterback due to COVID-19 protocols to sign a player off another team’s practice squad the week of a game. As long as the replacement QB followed proper COVID-19 regulations with his prior team, he would not have to go through another isolation period.
As you might remember, the Broncos had zero QB’s on the roster to face the Saints in Week 12 after all their quarterbacks did not wear a mask after one player tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, Denver was forced to start undrafted rookie receiver Kendall Hinton at quarterback.
Hinton threw 1/9 for 13 yards and two interceptions en route to a 31-3 blowout loss.
