Extra details pertaining to Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud’s father have emerged on the back of the player discussing prison reform after his incredible performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
The QB set a record for the most passing yards by a rookie on the night as he threw for 470 yards, five touchdowns, and put together a drive to seal a comeback win at the death.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Stroud revealed one of his biggest dreams is for his father to see him play as he revealed the latter’s struggles amid his incarceration.
“I got to talk to my dad a little bit this week,” he said. “And I’m praying to God that something can happen that he can get out and come to one of these games. I’ve been praying for him a lot.”
Stroud’s father, Coleridge Bernard III, pleaded guilty to drug-related charges, including carjacking, kidnapping, robbery, and misdemeanor sexual battery, in 2015. He had tried to escape authorities by jumping into San Diego Bay
Coleridge is currently serving a 38-year sentence on what’s his second stint in prison.
