Unlike last year, when the team had to wait until the third round to make its first selection, the Texans will be busy on Day 1 of next week’s draft.
According to Jeff Howe, the Texans could get involved in a potential trade for 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo or Browns QB Baker Mayfield, but it would come after the draft has been completed. Howe says the Texans do like QB Davis Mills, who as of now is expected to be the team’s starter in 2022.
It should be noted that Texans GM Nick Caserio was part of the Patriots’ front office when they drafted Garoppolo. The veteran QB is rehabbing from shoulder surgery and isn’t expected to begin throwing again until July. Mayfield is not expected to be traded before the draft and remains in limbo.
The Houston Texans are also said to be reportedly exploring a trade to get back into the top 10, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. They currently own the No. 3 and No. 13 picks in the first round.
Texans general manager Nick Caserio recently told Jim Trotter there’s only a “50-60 percent chance” they stay at No. 13 in the first round.
