An unbelievable story about Pittsburgh Steelers’ legend Terry Bradshaw using the “Tom Brady” alias back in 1983 has resurfaced.
“Tom Brady” is now one of the most recognizable names in the history of professional sports. But back in 1983, it was a simple pseudonym Bradshaw used as a clever ploy to avoid recognition as he prepared to undergo surgery.
The story is this: Bradshaw required surgery on his elbow and went to Shreveport, Louisiana for the procedure. Hoping to avoid getting recognized and draw attention, Bradshaw used the alias “Thomas Brady.”
Believe it or not, the story is in fact true. The New York Times ran the story back in 1983, and it’s been picked up by media outlets over the years.
Bradshaw used this alias 17 years before future NFL legend Tom Brady entered the NFL, and 19 years before the latter led the New England Patriots to their first Super Bowl championship.
The now-46-year-old Brady retired after last season as the all-time leader in passing yards, passing touchdowns, completions, wins and of course Super Bowl championship rings (seven). Bradshaw wasn’t half bad himself, retiring with four Super Bowl championships en route to a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
