Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Owens believe that there’s a fellow ex-Dallas Cowboy who belongs with him in Canton.
On the latest episode of the “Getcha Popcorn Ready” podcast for Fubo Sports (h/t Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk), Owens questioned how current San Francisco 49ers’ GM and former safety John Lynch is in the Hall of Famer over Cowboys’ legend Darren Woodson:
“I’m thinking about a guy like Darren Woodson that’s not in the Hall of Fame, but John Lynch is…
When I got with the Niners, like I said, I didn’t know anything about no rivalry with the Cowboys and the Niners, I knew nothing about that. But when it comes to the game plan (it was about where is Woodson)? Granted John Lynch did some great things here and there, but I’m not looking for John (on the field). I wasn’t.
But when I played from my rookie year on, and I played against the Cowboys, I had to identify [where Woodson was]. Just because a guy starts on a defense and he is the No. 1 guy back there in the secondary for that defense, for me overall in totality, that doesn’t mean he’s impacting what I’m going to be doing. Yeah, he has to be accounted for that day because you’re game planning, but I wasn’t scared of No. 47 (Lynch). And when I was with the Eagles and he was with Denver at the time (shrugs).”
Woodson spent his entire career with the Cowboys, which spanned from 1992 to 2003. The Arizona State product was a second-round pick (37th overall) by America’s Team in 1992, and he immediately emerged as a game-changer and fan favorite in Dallas.
The Cowboys won back-to-back Super Bowl championships in Woodson’s first two seasons. The five-time Pro Bowler helped Dallas achieve dynasty status when they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl 30.

The four-time First-team All-Pro was named a semifinalist for the first time here for the 2023 Pro Football Hall of Fame class. But much to the chagrin of Woodson and Cowboys fans, the 54-year-old was passed over for the 2023 class.
Lynch was no slouch himself, earning nine Pro Bowl nods, two First-team and as many Second-team All-pro selections. He was on the legendary Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense that led the team to a Super Bowl 37 championship in the 2002 season.
It’s definitely surprising that Woodson hasn’t been enshrined despite being eligible since 2008. But it certainly only feels like a matter of time until he finally gets the nod.
