The Titans’ NFL franchise was established in 1960. They were initially based in Houston, Texans and played under the name “Oilers.” The Houston Oilers organization lasted from 1960 to ’96 until relocating to Nashville, Tennessee in 1997.
For their first two years there, Tennessee retained the “Oilers” nickname before switching it to “Titans” in 1999. That same year, the organization went on to reach the Super Bowl for the first time — where they narrowly fell to the Los Angeles Rams.
The Denver Broncos will unveil throwback uniforms on Tuesday, and the Philadelphia Eagles are slated to reveal their “Kelly Green” jerseys at some point this summer.
It’s been a rather exciting offseason for the Titans. They came away with elite offensive tackle prospect Peter Skoronski in round one before selecting Kentucky quarterback Will Levis (widely expected to be a top-10 pick) with the No. 33 selection. And earlier this month, the Titans won the DeAndre Hopkins free agent sweepstakes by signing him to a two-year deal.
The Titans will open their 2023 season on the road against the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 10.
