The Tennessee Titans have revealed their quarterback pecking order following their drafting of Will Levis on Friday night.
The Titans will probably feel fortunate to get Levis in the second round given the initial projections. The QB was the favorite to go second overall the day before Thursday night’s first round but was put through an embarrassing ordeal as he sat through the entire affair without hearing his name called. Subsequent reports would note that there was a concern among teams that resulted in none of them picking him in the first round.
It didn’t take the former Kentucky signal-caller very long to get picked on Friday night. The Titans were reported to have made attempts to trade for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ No. 32 pick but ended up getting Levis 33rd overall, with the Steelers selecting cornerback Joey Porter Jr. as the first pick of the second round.
The Titans’ decision to draft Levis came as a bit of a surprise as veteran QB Ryan Tannehill is returning in 2023, while they used a third-round pick on Malik Willis in 2022.
However, Levis will fall right in line, with head coach Mike Vrabel revealing that the latest addition to the QB stable will begin his professional career as a third-stringer, though he will have an opportunity to change the coach’s mind.
“Ryan will be the starting quarterback on Monday,” Vrabel declared in front of reporters, per NFL.com. “Malik will be the backup. Will will be the third quarterback. And what I’ve told them is whatever happens after that will be up to the players. That’s what it’s always been here. That’s what we always want it to be.”

Levis may have expected to become an immediate starter given the way many analysts talked his game and draft potential up ahead of this Thursday. But it appears he will have to prove he deserves anything he gets.
