The Tennessee Titans are up for this week’s iteration of the NFL’s Thursday Night Football, playing the Dallas Cowboys, who will be extra motivated as they want to force the Philadelphia Eagles to win in order to clinch the top spot in the NFC.
However, the Titans will bench rookie quarterback Malik Willis in favor of third-string QB Joshua Dobbs. That is according to NFL reporter Dov Kleiman.
Tennessee’s set to be short on players, with eight of them to miss Thursday night’s game. Derrick Henry’s hip injury is also likely to keep him out.
A Unique Opportunity
The decision to start Dobbs in place of Willis comes as a surprise but it still makes sense for the Titans as tonight’s result will do nothing to change their playoff status. A win over the Cowboys won’t make a difference, but their Week 18 clash vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars will be the decider as it pertains to the AFC South.
Dobbs has only thrown 17 passes in the NFL since entering the league five years ago, completing 10 of them for 45 yards.
He joined the Titans from the Detroit Lions’ practice squad eight days ago and is now set to make his first career start given the unique circumstances surrounding the Titans’ Week 17 game.
