The Tennessee Titans are in a position to fashion a trade that would see Derrick Henry moved to an AFC powerhouse this year.
The Cincinnati Bengals will be under some financial pressure as of the next offseason, with the likes of Joe Burrow and Tee Higgins set to be eligible for extensions. A decision will also have to be made on the fifth-year option for Ja’Marr Chase.
While Cincy would like to keep all of the aforementioned, and it would be in their best interest, it’s hardly always possible to keep a successful core together long-term.
Of course, there are always options, especially on the market, with players available both via trade and free agency. Where trades are concerned, Henry has been suggested as a viable target for the Bengals by CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin.
The running back is heading into the last year of his contract, which is always a tricky time for teams. They would probably not want to refuse a trade offer from Cincinnati involving their 2024 second-round pick and would likely be happy to give them rights to Henry, as well as a 2025 pick in the later rounds.
That would leave the Titans with a premium pick at the expense of a player who is unlikely to be in their long-term rebuilding plans and also plays in a position that gets less valuable with each passing season. On the Bengals’ side, they’d be getting a major upgrade on Joe Mixon.
