The Tennessee Titans are looking to lock down the top spot in the AFC South and a place in the postseason, but they may have to do so without the services of quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
As such, the team has made a key addition at the quarterback position to help bolster their chances of claiming a third-straight division title.
According to reports, the Titans have signed quarterback Josh Dobbs off the Detroit Lions’ practice squad.
Dobbs began the season with the Cleveland Browns, but he was waived less than a month ago, when Deshaun Watson returned from his suspension. He was then signed to the Detroit Lions’ practice squad, but with the Titans facing the prospect of having to roll with rookie Malik Willis with their season on the line down the stretch, the Tennessee front office decided it was in their best interests to bring in another option.
Dobbs was drafted by the Steelers in the fourth-round of the 2017 draft. Over the years, there’s been rumblings of him being one of the more highly-coveted backups around the league, as several teams apparently saw some potential in the former Tennessee Volunteer. The Steelers, however, were never really willing do deal him on most occasions.
That all changed in 2022, though, as Pittsburgh signed Mitch Trubisky in the off-season, before using a first-round pick on Kenny Pickett. With Mason Rudolph also on the roster, Dobbs suddenly became expendable, so the Steelers allowed him to walk in free agency.

Although Tannehill is dealing with what’s believed to be a pretty serious ankle injury, he was able to play through the ailment during last week’s loss to the Chargers. At the moment, his status for Saturday’s game against the Houston Texans is up in the air. If he’s not able to go, it would likely still be Willis getting the start this weekend. But if Tannehill is forced to miss multiple weeks, there’s definitely a chance that we could see Dobbs taking snaps in a regular season NFL game for the first time since 2000.
