The New England Patriots are desperate to rack up some wins this season following their 2-5 start and could make some moves ahead of the NFL trade deadline to facilitate that.
While many expect that they will be selling, if anything, they could bring in bodies who could help Bill Belichick get closer to that all-time wins record after his 300th regular-season victory on Sunday and perhaps help them save face after their embarrassing start to the campaign.
A former NFL executive is linking a top wide receiver to Belichick and the Patriots, naming Cincinnati Bengals star Tee Higgins as the “perfect pickup.”
“The Patriots may become sellers at the trade deadline, but they should be buyers for the future as well. Tee Higgins would be a perfect pickup for them,” the former exec told the NFL Analysis Network. “Adding a true No. 1 wideout to build around for years to come should be a major priority for New England.”
The Pats are unlikely to make the playoffs this season but that’s hardly a reason not to improve the roster, especially if there’s an opportunity to build some chemistry that could help them out next season.
Adding Higgins would certainly foster improvement and set them up for a better start in 2024, but getting the Bengals to agree to a trade could be a challenge.

Higgins was reported to be a potential trade candidate earlier in the season given that he’s heading into free agency. Things didn’t look bright in Cincinnati at the time either.
However, the Bengals have won two games on the bounce and are back in the fight for the AFC North. Trading one of their biggest offensive threats would probably be a huge mistake at such a juncture.
