ESPN’s Dianna Russini reported on Get Up on Wednesday that the New England Patriots continue to show interest in a trade for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo:
“I’ve talked to a bunch of people in the league about this, and enough people I trust have told me that the Patriots’ interest in Jimmy Garoppolo has been consistent. This has got to be more San Francisco willing to make the deal and, of course, New England having the right amount of picks and money to get Jimmy to bring him back. And that’s really what it’s going to come down to.”
The 49ers continue to show that they are ready to move on from Jimmy G after trading up to get the No. 3 overall selection in the 2021 NFL draft, giving up two future first-round picks.
ESPN’s Tedy Bruschi was asked if a potential reunion with the New England Patriots was possible.
“Now that San Francisco is talking about, ‘the price has to be right’ I would say absolutely not,” Bruschi said. “That price is going to be high, it’s going to be a high draft pick…For me that goes against everything Bill Belichick is.”
“To pay a high price for a player that has poor durability. And I can just hear him right now thinking ‘why would I give all that for a player I don’t even know is going to play 16 games.’”
