The Denver Broncos were moving toward a potentially game-tying touchdown at the end of the third quarter on Sunday at Mile High…until tragedy struck.
Melvin Gordon was given the ball on a 4th & 1 play, and the running back coughed it up. Philadelphia Eagles’ DB Darius Slay picked up the ball, fumbled it, picked it up again, and made his way 82-yards down the field for the touchdown.
Footage shows that Broncos quarterback Teddy Bridgewater had a great opportunity to tackle Slay around midfield. But he gave zero effort to stop the Eagles’ cornerback.
That play pretty much put the game out of reach for the Broncos. You certainly can’t blame Bridgewater for the fumble. But when the team looks over the footage next week, you can bet they won’t be impressed with their quarterback’s effort. If Bridgewater makes that stop, that Broncos still have a chance.
Instead, they fall to 5-4 on the season.
