One former all-pro is ready to resume his career despite having not taken a snap in three years. Tarik Cohen is ready to begin his comeback in earnest.
Cohen was officially released by the Bears just before free agency in March of 2022 but didn’t play in 2021 as he tried to come back from the severe injury he suffered while making a fair catch against the Atlanta Falcons in the 2020 season.
On the play, Cohen suffered a torn ACL, MCL, and a fracture of the tibial plateau. In the midst of trying to rehab the injury, he reportedly suffered a torn Achilles tendon.
The 5-foot-6, 191-pound back had 1,101 yards rushing on 264 carries and 1,575 yards receiving on 209 catches during three-plus seasons for the Bears before injuries took a toll on him.
Cohen averaged 10.3 yards on 96 punt returns with one TD and 20.9 yards on 30 kick returns. He made the Pro Bowl and All-Pro in 2018 as a return man.

“I want to be the player that I was before I got hurt,” Cohen said on a Rally House Q&A in February of 2022. “I won’t let myself come back before I’m ready and before I feel like I can put the same performances on that I was putting on before I got hurt.”
As it happens, the Bears could use a punt returner, but they might not look to bring him back.
Several teams may be interested in signing Cohen as a third-down specialist. The Broncos, Dolphins, Lions, and Chiefs are among the teams that could make sense for Cohen, who is trying to land on a roster before the start of the 2023 season.
