The Tampa Bay Bucs were already going to release Antonio Brown, but after the last two days of him exposing them, they went ahead and got it over with on Thursday.
According to Adam Schefter, the Buccaneers are waiving WR Antonio Brown today.
Tampa Bay had explored other options following Sunday’s drama with Brown exiting midgame, including a potential suspension or a left-squad designation. However, it appears they’ve decided to grant Brown his freedom.
He will go on waivers and be eligible to be claimed by other teams, but he has already stated that he is going to have surgery on his ankle.
The team would soon release a statement on the matter:

Brown released a statement on Wednesday blaming his “coach” for his midgame exit from the field on Sunday. The statement released through his lawyer Sean Burstyn was the first time Brown has directly addressed the incident in public.
He doesn’t reference Bruce Arians by name, but not mentioning the head only lasted for less than 24 hours after what he exposed the next day.
On Thursday, the former Buccaneers wideout took to Twitter and Instagram to share screengrabs of alleged text messages he exchanged with Tampa Bay coach Bruce Arians. Brown shared a photo of himself getting treatment from a trainer on his right ankle, allegedly telling Arians he “can’t get to full speed” while dealing with the injury.
Brown’s reply came after Arians allegedly texted him on Dec. 30, saying, “This is BA. Make sure your ready to go tomorrow. We ARE NOT resting for the playoffs.”
Many questions will be asked to Arians about these texts.
