The influx of women in male dominated sports continued to trend in a positive direction when the Tampa Bay Bucs announced the hiring of Lori Locust as assistant defensive line coach and added Maral Javadifar as assistant strength and conditioning coach.
This past Wednesday, Locust walked into her last meeting with the Birmingham Iron of the Alliance of American Football League as the defensive line coach as she informed the team and wished them well.
Via Tampa Bay Times:
“I packed up what little of my life I brought with me, and now I’m somewhere on I-75 with another hour to go,” Locust said. “It’s surreal, it really is, and I mean in some ways, to me, it’s just knowing that I have to be ready to go to work.”
Locust also worked as a defensive coaching intern for the Baltimore Ravens during training camp in 2018.
“I know how hard it can be to get that first opportunity to coach at the highest level of professional football,” Arians said in a statement released by the team. “Sometimes, all you need is the right organization to offer up the opportunity.”
