Could Sunday possibly be the final time we see Tom Brady on the field?
Tom Brady has given no indication one way or the other to teammates or coaches about his intentions beyond this season, but it has many in the Tampa organization reportedly ‘bracing’ from him to step away from the game after thier playoff run is over, according to a new report from NFL insider Jason La Canfora.
“He hasn’t signaled one way or the other what he’s going to do,” said one source close to Brady, “and maybe he doesn’t know himself. But it wouldn’t be surprising if this was the end.”
One Bucs source said: “Nothing’s been said, but there is a sense among some guys in the locker room that this is it, one way or the other. It’s just little things here or there they are picking up on. Maybe it turns out to be nothing.”
Earlier this week, Rob Ninkovich, a retired NFL player who spent eight years with the Hall of Fame quarterback back in Foxborough, stated that if the Tampa Buccaneers lose to the Los Angeles Rams this weekend, we could see Brady retire.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if Tom just kind of walked away and do whatever he wants to do,” said Ninkovich.
Brady is 44-years-old and coming off yet another Super Bowl win and currently having one of the best seasons of his storied career with 5,316 yards passing, 43 TDs, and only 12 INTs in his second season as a Buccaneer. Despite his age, it would still be a shocking retirement and quite possibly the way he would want to go out instead of a season long farewell tour.
With the NFL Divisional Round of the playoffs up next, setting the stage for Brady and the Bucs hosting the Rams, we could be getting our answer soon.
