Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Jordan Whitehead will miss Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints and will also be unavailable for any playoff game his team may be playing following his involvement in a car accident this weekend.
According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, the Bucs are placing the defensive back on the non-football injury list as of Saturday due to injuries he sustained in said accident.
“Bucs S Jordan Whitehead was involved in a automobile accident today and suffered injuries significant enough for the team to place him in the Non-football injury list,” Stroud reported on Saturday.
The extent of the player’s injuries is unknown at the moment, but he is generally understood to be in good enough condition, and the roster move is only being made because he will be out for multiple weeks.
Whitehead only returned to the active roster last week after missing four weeks on the injured reserve. He’s registered 79 tackles and three passes defensed in 12 appearances this year.

The team will also be without safety Antoine Winfield Jr. and cornerback Jamel Dean when they face the Saints on Sunday. Should they snatch a positive result, they would win the NFC South.
The Buccaneers have since confirmed news of the player’s involvement in an accident, revealing it took place while he was on his way to their practice facility on Saturday morning
They also revealed having signed Ryan Neal to the active roster from the practice squad as a result of this setback.
