A surprise NFC team has been floated as a landing spot for Aaron Rodgers, in the event that the New York Jets move on from the superstar quarterback.
Aaron Rodgers previously stated that his Jets future largely depends on what the new general manager and head coach want to do. The team has signed hired Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey for the head coach and GM roles, respectively.
If Glenn and Mougey want to restart at quarterback, the Jets can either shop for a trade partner or outright release the four-time MVP. Either way, there should be a good market for the 41-year-old.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox argued that the Minnesota Vikings are the best landing spot for Aaron Rodgers if the Jets decide to move on:
“While this scenario is highly unlikely, following Brett Favre’s Green Bay-to-New-York-to-Minnesota path could be the best possible outcome for Rodgers.
If the 41-year-old decides to extend his NFL career, it’ll be to ensure that the Jets debacle isn’t his final chapter. He won’t come back to lead another directionless franchise. He’ll want to play for a contender, and there aren’t many that will consider employing him.”

The Vikings will presumably let Sam Darnold walk to free agency after a disastrous end to his career year. 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy missed his entire rookie year recovering from knee surgery, but it makes sense to target an established veteran like Rodgers if Minnesota doesn’t think the former is ready to start.

Though the Jets were a tremendous disappointment in 2024, Rodgers showed he can still play at a high level with 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Aaron Rodgers Would Make Vikings Bonafide Contenders
The Vikings have an elite set of playmakers in Justin Jefferson (the game’s best wide receiver), Jordan Addison and T.J. Hockenson to go along with a top-10 defense. Rodgers would be a considerable upgrade over Darnold, who still got this team to 14 wins.
Green Bay Packers fans, of course, would hate the idea of Rodgers pulling a Brett Favre and going to Minnesota for the last stop of his career. But if the Vikings have interest, and if Rodgers wants to win a Super Bowl, the two sides should definitely work on a deal.
