A major trade proposal has a quarterback-needy NFC team moving up into the No. 4 spot via the Arizona Cardinals to select a new signal-caller in the NFL Draft next month.
At this time, it’s widely assumed that the first three picks in the 2024 NFL Draft will be quarterbacks Caleb Williams (a practical lock at No. 1 to the Chicago Bears), Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye. The Washington Commanders and New England Patriots hold the No. 2 and No. 3 selections, respectively.
The Cardinals have made it clear that they’re committed to Kyler Murray, so they’ll either take a non-QB at No. 4 (likely Ohio State wideout Marvin Harrison Jr.) or trade it to another team. If it’s the latter, that team will likely want a quarterback.
Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport proposed a blockbuster trade that has Arizona trading the No. 4 and No. 162 picks to the New York Giants in exchange for the No. 6, No. 47 and and No. 107 selections in the NFL Draft:
“The Giants are in a spot (picking sixth overall) where it’s possible that they could land Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy without making a move up the board. But now that the Cardinals have put the fourth pick on the market, Giants general manager Joe Schoen has to consider the possibility that another quarterback-needy team will leapfrog them. So, if the G-Men truly are done with Jones, they may have to do some moving up of their own if they believe that McCarthy or Washington’s Michael Penix can be a long-term upgrade at quarterback.”
New York head coach Brian Daboll already informed NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero that Daniel Jones will be the team’s starting quarterback when he returns. Jones suffered a season-ending ACL tear in Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

But Jones has only had one encouraging season in his five-year career, and the Giants can get out of his $160 million contract after next year. So ultimately, one shouldn’t be surprised if the Giants end up taking a quarterback with their first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Giants Have Plenty Of Options At QB In The 2024 NFL Draft
The Giants probably won’t be able to get their hands on Daniels or Maye, so the focus should be on second-tier QBs for the 2024 NFL Draft class.
Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy, Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. and Oregon’s Bo Nix are all possibilities for the Giants here. They might not even have to trade up from the No. 6 spot to land a QB in the NFL Draft, either.
The bottom line is that if the Giants wish to find Jones’ replacement in this year’s draft, they will not be short on options.
