One NFL executive thinks a top AFC team could make a push to acquire Seattle Seahawks superstar wide receiver D.K. Metcalf in a blockbuster trade.
Despite finishing with their best record since 2020 (10-7), the Seahawks missed the postseason for the second straight year. With big-named veterans like D.K. Metcalf and Geno Smith entering their contracts, and with a cap crunch looming, GM John Schneider may have to make some difficult sentimental decisions.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler spoke to multiple NFL executives and asked for their predictions on some of the biggest offseason moves. One NFL coordinator suggested that the Los Angeles Chargers make a move for Metcalf to bolster their offense:
“The Seahawks can still get good value for him, and he could pair with Ladd McConkey for a good inside-out tandem. [Justin] Herbert to Metcalf would be scary. I think [Los Angeles] will be looking to help the quarterback in a big way.”
The Chargers reached the postseason with an 11-6 record, but they were crushed 32-12 by the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round. The lack of a game-changing No. 2 receiver to help rookie phenom Ladd McConkey (82 catches for 1,149 yards and seven touchdowns) was a key reason why.

With Jaxon Smith-Njigba enjoying a larger role in the Seattle offense as a sophomore, D.K. Metcalf saw his production decline. He caught 66 passes for 992 yards and five touchdowns, failing to hit the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in three years.

With Metcalf heading into his contract year, the Seahawks should decide on his future as soon as possible: Either an extension or a trade while his value is at its highest, rather than risk losing him for nothing in 2026 free agency.
D.K. Metcalf Would Make Chargers Super Bowl Contenders
If the Chargers could somehow add Metcalf to the mix, they would immediately go from wild card team to Super Bowl contender. They’d have a top-five receiving duo to complement Justin Herbert, their prolific rushing game and elite defense to go up against heavyweights like Baltimore, Buffalo and Kansas City.
