Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is reportedly floating in trade rumors during Super Bowl 59 week in New Orleans.
Last week, it was reported that Matthew Stafford plans to continue playing football after several weeks of speculation about retirement. The Super Bowl 56 champion is signed for two more years.
Though Stafford isn’t ready to hang up the cleats yet, it sounds like his return to Los Angeles isn’t a guarantee. Speaking on “The Dan Patrick Show”, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reports that Stafford is actually available in a trade.
No one’s talking about the Matthew Stafford thing. I don’t understand it,” Albert Breer said on the “Dan Patrick Show,” which is airing live from New Orleans ahead of Super Bowl 2025.
“I don’t understand why nobody’s talking about the idea that Stafford could be available, and if you’re another team, you’re probably calling the Rams. What if Matthew Stafford wants a market correction and says, what is it, seven or eight guys are making over $50 million? I want $50 million. There’s just a lot of stuff there where if I’m another team I’m making that call.”
Matthew Stafford agreed to a reworked contract last year that included more money for 2024 and removed guarantees for 2025. The No. 1 pick of 2009 turns 37 years of age on Friday.

Stafford led the Rams to their first NFC West division title in three years and to a blowout win over the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card Round. Their season ended with a 28-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional Round.
Which Teams Could Target Matthew Stafford?
There’s no shortage of teams who could be in the market for a new quarterback in 2025. Potential suitors for Stafford could include the Pittsburgh Steelers, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans and New Orleans Saints.
Stafford’s contract may scare some teams off, but he’d surely be willing to redo the deal if he found a landing spot for his liking.
