The upcoming Super Bowl is expected to draw a record number of bets.
The NFL’s big game continues to attract more wagers than all other sporting events worldwide every year, and that will be what obtains in 2024 as a recent survey has suggested that a stupendous $23.1 billion will be bet on Sunday’s Super Bowl 58 clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers.
“Approximately 67.8 million adults — 26% of the adult population of the United States — could combine to bet $23.1 billion on Super Bowl LVIII between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs, according to survey results released Tuesday by the American Gaming Association (AGA). Both figures — the number of bettors and the amount wagered — are up significantly from last year’s survey,” ESPN’s David Purdum wrote on Tuesday.
That the Super Bowl will be played in Las Vegas for the first time is likely responsible for the uptick. Sin City is thought to be America’s gambling capital, while more states are legalizing betting allowing for additional wagers around the nation.
“As the Super Bowl comes to Las Vegas for the first time, this year’s record interest in wagering marks a full circle moment for the U.S. gaming industry,” AGA president and CEO Bill Miller noted. “Our priority remains getting this opportunity right by providing the consumer protections only a regulated market can guarantee and investing in responsible gambling tools, safeguards and education.”
It appears loads of fans will be making bank this year. But plenty of them are also set to lose money.
The 49ers were the best team in the NFC this season and are the slight favorites at 4/5. The Chiefs are back in the Super Bowl despite their many struggles, shockingly beating the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game. They’re 19/17 to come out on top.
