It was tough to watch the San Francisco 49ers go down like they did during the NFC Championship. They were already in a tough spot going up against the first-place Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field…
But to have to do it without a quarterback? It’s amazing that the Niners didn’t lose by even more than the 31-7 margin they were beaten by.
San Francisco began the game with third-stringer Brock Purdy under center. He injured his shoulder early in the game, however, leaving the Niners with no choice but to roll with fourth-stringer Josh Johnson.
And then, wouldn’t you know it? Johnson got injured too, leaving the game with a concussion!
It was looking like the Niners would have to roll with Christian McCaffrey or Kyle Juszczyk at quarterback.
They ended up rolling with a very limited Purdy the rest of the way, but perhaps someone from the Niners’ front office should have checked Twitter. Because it appears as though they had another option—one who just so happens to have a Super Bowl ring as a member of the Niners.

Most 49ers fans would have definitely preferred to see Steve Young under center over an injured Purdy…
Heck, they probably would have taken him over a completely healthy Josh Johnson, too.
