ESPN’s massive round of layoffs on Friday included a beloved NFL analyst and Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback.
Per A.J. Perez of Front Office Sports, ESPN has let go of Steve Young, who spent 22 years with the Worldwide Leader in Sports.
Young is one of several prominent names to have been let go by ESPN today. The company also parted ways with longtime NBA analyst Jeff Van Gundy, former “First Take” co-host Max Kellerman, longtime reporter Suzy Kolber and former NBA star Jalen Rose and ex-NFL wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson.
Back in February, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that they would be cutting 7,000 jobs.
Young played in the NFL from 1985 to 1999. He spent his first two years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before getting traded to the San Francisco 49ers in 1987. Young won three Super Bowls with the 49ers (one as the starting QB) and two MVP awards during his run on the west coast.
