Steve Smith had made it clear that he didn’t want his team to trade for Baker Mayfield.
A couple of months ago, when the Panthers were extremely close to pulling off a draft-day trade to acquire Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield, the former Panthers receiver posted a video on social media to give a quick thought on the rumors.
“I hear the Carolina Panthers are going to make a move for Baker Mayfield. My reaction, if they do, NOOOOOOOOOOOO.”
On Wednesday, that trade went down when the Panthers landed Mayfield in exchange for a 2024 conditional 5th round pick.
Smith took to Twitter to once again give his thoughts.
“We have Baker Mayfield. Whatever the conversation is, it doesn’t matter. We’ll see what happens. We hope for the best and we pray the worst never happens.
“Go Baker, go Baker,” he said.
